My father, Richard Vaughan, took thousands of bird photos and made notes of all his observations. He also made detailed notes on photography, printed his best photos in his darkroom and put them in albums with dates, places, and other details connecting them to the negatives and notebooks. His archives were donated to the British Trust for Ornithology in 2023. Anyone who wants to see the archives can ask the BTO. They consist of the following:
- Bird photo albums with approximately 1,500 photos in each (with hand-written notes on the pages), dated 1952 – 1997.
- Over 1000 black-and-white films either in rolls or flat in folders (these negatives are all numbered and relate to many of the photos in albums).
- Over 10,000 colour slides in boxes (of 36).
- Bird notebooks/diaries dated 1952 – 1997.

Richard donated his boyhood egg collection and notes to the Natural History Museum at Tring
(https://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit/tring.html). He also wrote many articles and books on history and birds (see bibliography below), and was a talented artist. Below is his article on Eleonora’s falcon, a species he studied extensively and also painted.
